Gateways of Aegina
The Island of Aegina is a liminal place. Just a short ferry-hop from Athens, it is where Athenians head at weekends and holidays. But it also has more history than you can shake a stick at - temples and ruins galore, dating between the Byzantine era and the recent Greek Recession. It also has a resident population of about 11,000 people, including me.
This collection of photos, ‘Gateways of Aegina’, captures random gates and thresholds across the island. I’m not ever going to map them (though it has been suggested) because this is a place for exploration not pinning-down: why not come and look for your own portals?!
